4 Easy Ways to Fight Blackspot

20 Aug 2021
Having problems with blackspot?

Now is the time of year when blackspot strikes, roses have been flowering and growing beautifully then suddenly it begins. The leaves turn yellow, and small black spots start appearing on them. Although it doesn't make the plant look very attractive, blackspot has never actually killed a rose, so don't panic! Here are some quick tips on how to get the better of blackspot.

1. Up your watering, roses lacking water can become prone to diseases.

2. Feed, this will give the rose the energy it needs to fight off blackspot.

3. Clear the leaves from around the base, blackspot is a spore that lives in the soil and can travel to other roses in the bed if you're not careful.

4. If the previous steps don't work, it's time to look at spraying. Our favourite spray is Greenacres 'Sulphur Rose'. Sulphur is the natural enemy of blackspot, the product can be used year round and really does make a difference. And lastly, this product is safe for bees and wildlife! Definitely worth a go if your roses are struggling with blackspot.
